JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Ph.D. Molecular Biologist with expertise in Patent Law to join our dynamic global pharmaceutical research team. This unique role combines cutting-edge molecular biology research with strategic intellectual property management to drive innovation and protect our discoveries. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of molecular biology techniques and a solid foundation in patent law, particularly within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE:
Patent Strategy & Intellectual Property (IP) Management:
  • Work closely with the legal and R&D teams to identify and protect innovative scientific discoveries through patents
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patents related to molecular biology technologies and pharmaceutical discoveries
  • Conduct patent searches and analyses to assess freedom-to-operate, novelty, and patentability of new inventions
  • Provide guidance on patent strategy and IP-related risk assessments for new research projects
  • Assist in managing patent portfolios and handling IP litigation or disputes
Collaborative Research & Development:
  • Collaborate with academic institutions, biotech companies, and regulatory agencies on molecular biology and IP-related projects
  • Communicate scientific findings through publications, presentations, and patent filings
  • Mentor and guide junior scientists and IP professionals
Regulatory & Compliance:
  • Stay up to date with patent laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to molecular biology and pharmaceutical research
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulatory guidelines for both research and patenting
Reporting and Documentation:
  • Prepare detailed reports of scientific experiments, data analysis, and patent filing strategies
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals, patent applications, and scientific publications
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field from an accredited institution
  • JD with IP focus
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of post-Ph.D. experience in molecular biology research, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Strong experience in patent law, with at least 2 years working in patent strategy, prosecution, and IP portfolio management
  • Proven track record of successful patent filings, including experience with both U.S, EU and international patent applications.
SKILLS & EXPERTISE:
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, next-generation sequencing, protein purification)
  • In-depth knowledge of patent law, particularly related to biotechnology and pharmaceuticals
  • Ability to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and legal protection, with strong communication skills for cross-disciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with IP management tools, patent databases, and patent analysis software
  • Analytical mindset with a strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
KEY COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong scientific acumen combined with legal and regulatory knowledge in the pharmaceutical space
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex scientific and legal concepts
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to assess commercial potential and patent landscape
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
