About the Role

As Business Development Manager – CDMO, you will be the commercial engine for Bioplus's contract development and manufacturing services. You will identify and qualify new CDMO opportunities across the pharma and biotech landscape, manage the complete sales cycle from initial outreach through contract signature, and ensure a smooth commercial handover to project management and technical teams.

This role spans our full CDMO offering — formulation development, API manufacturing, fermentation, and analytical services — targeting mid-size pharma companies, virtual biotechs, and emerging market generic players in the EU, UK, US, ANZ, and MENA regions. International travel of approximately 30–40% is expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, and develop a robust pipeline of CDMO opportunities across formulation (OSD, liquids, injectables), API (chemical synthesis, fermentation), and analytical services
  • Manage the full commercial lifecycle: prospecting, RFI/RFP response, technical and commercial proposal development, negotiation, and contract close
  • Develop and execute market entry and account growth strategies for priority geographies — EU, UK, US, ANZ, and MENA
  • Negotiate Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Quality Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, and project-specific contracts in coordination with Legal and Finance
  • Represent Bioplus at international pharmaceutical conferences and business events including CPhI Worldwide, BIO International, DCAT Week, and Pharma Expo
  • Conduct ongoing market intelligence on CDMO industry trends, competitor service offerings, capacity, and pricing — translate insights into actionable commercial strategy
  • Partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Project Management teams to develop technically credible and competitively priced proposals
  • Own the CRM pipeline — maintain accurate opportunity records, revenue forecasts, and activity logs; present BD progress to senior leadership monthly
  • Build and maintain long-term strategic relationships with key decision-makers (Procurement, R&D, Regulatory) at target client organisations

Qualifications & Experience

  • B.Pharm, M.Pharm, or Life Sciences degree; MBA preferred for candidates with strong scientific backgrounds
  • 5–8 years in CDMO business development, pharma contract manufacturing sales, or strategic account management in the pharmaceutical/biotech sector
  • Demonstrated track record of closing international CDMO partnerships or long-term supply agreements (preferably >$500K project values)
  • Strong technical understanding of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing processes — able to have credible conversations with R&D, regulatory, and technical procurement stakeholders
  • Experience with the EU and/or UK regulatory environment (MHRA, EMA) and how it shapes pharma company outsourcing decisions is strongly preferred
  • Excellent presentation, proposal writing, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills across cultures
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot, or equivalent) for pipeline management and reporting
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally 30–40% of time
