Overview

The Medicinal Chemist will be responsible for the design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel chemical entities for drug discovery programs. The role involves working closely with biology, analytical, DMPK, and formulation teams to optimize compounds for potency, selectivity, and drug-like properties.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Drug Design & Synthesis
    • Design and synthesize small molecules and analogs based on SAR (Structure-Activity Relationship) studies.
    • Develop efficient synthetic routes for target molecules.
    • Optimize synthetic methodologies for yield, purity, and scalability.
  2. Compound Characterization & Analysis
    • Purify compounds using chromatography and related techniques.
    • Characterize compounds using:
      • NMR
      • LC-MS / GC-MS
      • HPLC
      • IR spectroscopy
    • Maintain high-quality documentation of analytical data.
  3. Research & Development
    • Conduct literature reviews and patent searches to identify innovative approaches.
    • Analyze biological assay results and recommend structural modifications.
    • Support lead optimization and hit-to-lead programs.
  4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work with:
      • Biology teams for activity feedback
      • Analytical teams for compound purity validation
      • DMPK/ADME teams for optimization of drug-like properties
    • Participate in scientific discussions and project review meetings.
  5. Documentation & Compliance
    • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and experimental records.
    • Prepare technical reports and presentations.
    • Ensure compliance with:
      • GLP/GMP (where applicable)
      • Laboratory safety standards
      • Regulatory and company SOPs
  6. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
    • Stay updated with emerging medicinal chemistry techniques.
    • Propose innovative synthetic strategies and process improvements.
